US confectionery manufacturer has confirmed a major development for the business in opening an expanded 120,000 sq/ft factory in Moosic, Pennsylvania, amid key growth for the company, reports Neill Barston.
As the business noted, the delivery of the facility comes against the backdrop of having faced an unexpected significant hurdle of a production shutdown impacting supplies last year at its previous base in nearby Scranton, which had seriously affected the company’s future prospects, including employment for more than 100 staff.
However, the business has bounced back, but as it notes, the new location has fully restored and further enhanced its manufacturing capabilities. Consequently, it is on track to exceed $100 million in retail sales.
For decades, Ring Pop’s distinctive jewellery shaped hard candies have become a staple in American candy culture, has been proudly made in the U.S. since its launch in 1977, and this expansion underscores Bazooka Brands’ commitment to American manufacturing, supply chain efficiency, and cutting edge automation.
It claims 99% household awareness in the U.S., this investment ensures that Ring Pop remains a nostalgic favourite and iconic brand for generations to come.
The business held a recent grand opening and ribbon ceremony that included guest appearances from thePennsylvania State Senator Marty Flynn, House Representative Jim Haddock, Moosic Mayor Robert Bennie and Scranton Mayor Paige Gebhardt Cognetti.
Tony Jacobs, CEO, of parent group Bazooka Brands (below), commented: “It would not have been surprising for it to take at least a year or more to get back up and running.
“But we have an incredible team, and I could not be prouder of how they responded. In a matter of weeks, they found a new location. In a matter of months, they moved our equipment. And in just six months, the facility, our equipment, and our team were fully operational again. What an unbelievable accomplishment.”
As the business added, the multimillion-dollar investment, backed by Apax Partners LLP, not only allows Bazooka to retain its existing workforce but also creates new opportunities for the local community as production scales to meet growing demand. The new facility allows the brand to produce 1.5 million Ring Pops per day, cementing its ability to keep pace with increasing consumer demand.
“Rather than seeing this challenge as a setback, our team seized the opportunity to elevate operations and prepare for the brand’s exciting future,” added Jocelyn Stahl, Chief of Global Operations, Bazooka Brands. “This isn’t just a replacement—it’s a major upgrade that will enable us to expand operations and drive Ring Pop to new heights.”
